On Getting Fired and Letting People Go 💔
Tips and resources on structuring one of the most difficult processes in the workplace
Hey there,
Times are tough. At this point all of us know someone that has been let go, or you’ve been even impacted by layoffs yourself. Or maybe you have been in the very unfortunate position to needing to let go someone. At Bunch, Anthony and I have had to part ways with some of our team members recently 💔 which was the hardest thing we had to do in a very long time. It was a very difficult decision to take and we did not have too much time to prepare ourselves or the team. In the midst of a crisis, getting fired or letting someone go can be an even more difficult and emotional process than usual. It's important for both employers and employees to handle these situations with care, respect, and empathy, as they can leave lasting scars on both parties. No matter the circumstances, it's crucial to approach this process thoughtfully and considerately in order to create a positive and supportive workplace for those that stay and preserve your relationships with your former team members and colleagues.
“I need to let someone go, this is so hard… “
Letting people go is never an easy task, but it’s sometimes necessary for the health and success of a business. It’s important to handle these situations with care and respect, and to communicate openly and honestly with the employee.
When letting someone go, provide clear and specific feedback on why the decision was made. Offer support and resources to help the employee through the transition, such as assistance with job search or unemployment benefits. Remember that this is a difficult time for the employee, and treat them with empathy and respect.
How to let someone go with grace
👉 Avoid making the employee feel attacked or belittled; instead, focus on the reasons for the decision and how it will benefit those that stay with the company.
👉 Provide resources and support to help the employee through the transition, such as assistance with job search or unemployment benefits.
👉 If possible, give the employee advance notice of the decision to help them prepare for the transition.
👉 Treat the employee with respect and empathy throughout the process, and avoid making them feel like they have done something wrong or that they are not valued.
👉 Follow up with the employee after the decision has been made to ensure they have the resources and support they need during the transition.

“I’ve been let go… what do I do now? “
When you’re fired from a job, it can be a devastating blow to your self-esteem and your livelihood. It’s important to remember that being fired doesn’t define your worth as a person or your abilities. It’s simply a part of life and an opportunity to learn and grow from the experience.
What to do if you’ve been laid off:
👉 Take time to process your emotions and reflect on what you can learn from the experience.
👉 Reach out to friends, family, or a therapist for support and guidance.
👉 Evaluate your career goals and consider what steps you can take to move forward in a positive direction.
👉 Update your resume and professional profiles, and start applying for new job opportunities.
👉 Consider taking classes or workshops to improve your skills and make yourself more marketable.
👉 Network with other professionals in your field and attend industry events to make new connections.
👉 Be open to new opportunities and stay positive; remember that this is a chance to start fresh and pursue new goals.
Remember to take care of yourself during this time, and don't be afraid to seek help and support when you need it.
